Time management, budget, and healthy eating are some things many high school students struggle with. Numerous students participate in extracurricular activities, and any spare time they have left is usually spent by them doing homework or relaxing. As a result, not very many students make time for healthy eating.

Senior Alexa Taylor, used to not make time to eat healthy, and take note of what she consumes. But, as of recently, Taylor has made a very big change in her diet, cutting down her sugars and carbs while eating more vegetables, fruits, and proteins. Taylor has recently replaced all sugary drinks with water and only eats one sugary food every two weeks.

“Well for me personally I gain weight when I eat a lot of carbs and sugar, so I do the low carbs and high protein,” said Taylor.

When it comes to healthy eating for teenagers, or people of many age groups, budget is one of the main struggles. A lot of teenagers are on the go, and find it easier to stop at a fast food place, rather than preparing a home cooked meal due to the lack of time. But, instead of stopping for a greasy burger and fries students can start with switching that for a salad or sandwich from Subway.

“When I go out to eat I like to go to Chipotle because, they let you get less rice, more meat and then your lettuce and proteins from rice,” said Taylor.

One of the many factors that are not usually taken into consideration when it come to the way we eat is our performance. Freshman Ava Szilvasy who is one of the typical unhealthy high school students  has shared that she often feels sluggish and performs poorly compared to when she used to eat healthy. As for Taylor, she has said she performs much better since she has changed her diet. Taylor describes herself as more energetic, happy, feels lighter, and performs better in school and sports.

“I’ve just seen an overall positive change in myself and how I perform with this new diet,” said Taylor.

Although, Taylor has seen some pretty positive results due to her eating habits Szilvasy has not. In fact some of her results may seem pretty negative.

“I eat a lot of fast food and McDonalds and I feel really tired a lot,” said Szilvasy.

Eating healthy has proven to improve a person’s mood, grades, and overall performance. Despite the struggles of healthy eating like time and budget, the positive effects positively astounding.
