A true panther fan

There is one seat in the gymnasium filled every single basketball game of the year. Each game he is there cheering on the team. He is always there, sitting right behind the panthers bench, chatting with players and even yelling out pointers to them.

Phil Morrato goes to every single basketball game and has been for nearly 25 years. No matter if it is home or away, everyone can count on seeing Morrato. The entire team has noticed his appearance and his encouragement during the games.

“I got a whole bunch of friends on the team,” said Morrato.

One player is considered Moratto’s best friend, senior Diego Fasani, talks to him on the phone nearly every day after practice. Fasani also appreciates the loyalty from some fans like Morrato.

“It’s nice to know that we have people to support us. Win or Lose they’re always there for us,” said Fasani.

Morrato’s relationship with the players has grown over the years. It’s not just Fasani that is friends with him, the whole team thinks of Marrato as a friend.

“I think it’d be good to give back to him. It’s just what friends do for each other. I think it means the world to him,” said Fasani.

Morrato plays for a Special Olympics team, called the Belton High Hoops. The boys basketball team goes to Marrato’s games to cheer him on like he does for them.

“They all go to watch me, that makes me feel real good,” said Morrato.

Boys Basketball coach, Scott Jermain, also has a lot to say about Morrato’s appearance. Morrato is always supporting the team, that they can count on as to being at every game no matter the distance.

“I think it just shows the team that there is a fan base out there, that loves them and when they are playing it is not just for them, and Phil is just one of those people,” said Jermain.

So when at the next basketball game, be sure to look for Morrato sitting behind the bench. He is sure to start a conversation with anyone.
