How to get into NHS

The National Honors Society is one that is constantly doing community service projects for the school and the community. The process for getting into the NHS is relatively simple, this is what you have to do.

Sophomores and juniors who would like to become a part of the program must have a cummulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They will then be invited to be attend an informational meeting with Joe O’Neal and Laura Streicher.

In the application which has to be completed by April, students are asked what they have done in the community during their time at the high school (both for the school and the community), what qualifies them as a leader, what they have done as far as extra-curricular activities go, why they want to join NHS, and a couple of other things.

A panel of five teachers or other staff members are then selected to decide who qualifies to be a part of the NHS (based off of a non-biased numbering system given to each person’s name and application) for the following year, and send out letters to those who have made it into the program. Shortly thereafter, the induction ceremony is scheduled for students to be admitted into the program, and begin improving their community.

If you are having trouble getting your A+ hours, then the NHS is a great opportunity to get those hours with fairly little stress.
