Attempting to make the basket, varsity basketball coach Scott Jermain aggressively competes in the Faculty Basketball Game.

The annual faculty basketball game between Ray-Pec and Belton held Nov. 18 held more than just shots, steals and passes. Up and down the court tempers flared between both teams as fouls became excessive on both sides.

The gym was boiling hot with more than just body heat. Tempers from both teams came to a breaking point after too many fouls had been called. Leading the charge was chemistry and anatomy teacher Paul Carvan.

“I was a forward in the game, but in all honesty, they used me as a designated fouler,” Carvan said.

The tempers came to a breaking point when varsity basketball coach Scott Jermain was tackled and hit during play.

“After someone pushed me, people started to push and get out of the stands. It really excited the crowd, enough so that they stepped down to the court,” Carvan said.

With the Belton rivalry 52 years in the making, the faculty game is always a competitive event. However, a faculty game the likes of this have not been seen in Ray-Pec history.
