Student Senate hosts annual Veteran’s Day breakfast

Veteran’s Day at Ray-Pec is a time for students to get together and hold a breakfast and ceremony to honor American veterans. Seniors Logan VanWinkle and Cole Keiper are the leaders of the event, and make sure that everything goes according to plan.

“Cole Keiper and I ran the event, we made sure the food was provided, invited veterans, set up the ceremony,” said VanWinkle, “We had the choir and the boy scouts for the raising the flag, and put the event together.”

The Veteran’s Day breakfast is a multiple part ceremony in addition to a Student Senate sponsored breakfast.

“We start with the flag ceremony. Then we have the boy scout troop raise the flag, Mr. Wilson played taps, the choir sang The Star Spangled Banner, and Miss Thompson made a speech thanking all the veterans for their service,” said VanWinkle, “About 50 to 60 people attended, and about 40 of them were veterans. We did this program through the Student Senate, as our service project.”

VanWinkle said that a lot of the veterans are repeats, and that they have came for many years and look forward to it, that it is a good way to start their Veteran’s Day.

However, VanWinkle and Keiper could not have put the breakfast on without the support of the Student Senate.

“I would like to say thank you to the Student Senate for making the breakfasts possible for me and Cole,” said VanWinkle.
