Throughout Israel’s complete siege of the Gaza Strip, over 48,000 Palestineans were killed, including over 17,000 children. Gaza has been completely devastated and suffered a total infrastructure collapse. The United States should end its support for Israel due to its genocide in Gaza and continued apartheid in the West Bank.
Since its inception, the US has provided 310 billion dollars in financial and military assistance, and since October 7th, it has provided at least 12.5 billion dollars in direct military aid to Israel (Masters and Merrow 2024). Utilizing this American aid, Israel has committed genocide in the Gaza Strip. A report from the international human rights organization, Amnesty International speaks on the issue.
“Israel has carried out acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention, with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza. These acts include killings, causing serious bodily or mental harm and deliberately inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction. Month after month, Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them,” said Amnesty International.
These genocidal actions have led to the mass death of Palestineans in Gaza and for the United States to continue its support for this genocidal country is completely unconscionable.
Israel has sustained a continued apartheid in the West Bank, an Israeli-occupied Palestinian territory. Apartheid first used to describe racial segregation in South Africa, has become a more general term meaning institutionalized and legally justified dominance of one racial group over another. A report from Human Rights Watch divulges on the issue.
“Across these areas and in most aspects of life, Israeli authorities methodically privilege Jewish Israelis and discriminate against Palestinians….In pursuit of this goal, authorities have dispossessed, confined, forcibly separated, and subjugated Palestinians by virtue of their identity to varying degrees of intensity. In certain areas,…these deprivations are so severe that they amount to the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution,” said Human Rights Watch.
By subjugating the Palestinian people into apartheid, Israel violates all levels of moral and legal scrutiny.
The United States is morally obligated to uphold international law and cease its support for countries that violate it. For this reason, the United States must cease all support from the genocidal apartheid state of Israel. Continuing to support a country that has committed the crimes against humanity that Israel has would show a complete disregard for international law and humanity.
