Alligator Ice Coming Soon
Coffee and cappuccinos were a big hit for The Daily Grind. As a new semester approaches, the shop’s staffers are looking forward to adding slushies to the list of amenities on their menu. In order to do this, the staff must buy an “Alligator Ice” slushy machine makes slushies with 100% fruit juice, which creates a product that meets all of the federal guidelines.
“We thought we could offer something else to people who didn’t like coffee.” said Daily Grind staffer Nathan Dudley.
Originally, dual-credit accounting students thought of adding fruit smoothies to the shop last year. However, the original budget did not allow such an expense. That idea transformed into funding for a slushy machine. Now with a profitable shop, the machine is more than a possibility. Since preparation for this upgrade has been a long process, being able to finalize the process brings good news to the staff’s advisor Tina Fultz.
“I’m really excited, I think it will be a big sell,” said Fultz.
There are plans to attain the machine by December, and have it up and running early in the spring semester. In attempts to advertise the machine, there is a goal meter posted outside of the shop to show progress towards the new menu option. The Grind must raise $2,400 to purchase the machine, and Daily Grinders confirm their goal is well in reach.
“Business is going well, I think we’re almost half way there already.” said Dudley.
Making space for the slushy machine within the shop is already being discussed, with it being amongst the syrups and cans of whipped cream, and the machine will change the dynamics in the shop. Only one store in the entire state of Missouri had the “Alligator Ice” slushy machine available, leaving staffers excited for the opportunity to make their new business plans a possibility. This new product will bring a new choice for students when they stop at the Daily Grind for their pick-me-up, and will refresh their day just in time for Spring.
