No shave November

The City of Peculiar, but namely Chief Gurin has always been a great supporter of the events our officers try to be a part of. We have been doing No-Shave November for just about 6 years now and it has grown every year. Last year we tried something new with a non-profit organization that is NO Shave NOVEMBER.ORG. No-Shave November is a web-based, non-profit organization devoted to growing cancer awareness and raising funds to support cancer prevention, research, and education.’s mission is quite simple and it also gives us public safety professionals an opportunity to do something great for our community. Of course, the best part is getting to work outside of the everyday department policies and let our community see that we are human and that we can grow a nice beard when allowed to do so. As PIO (For Social Media) for my department, I also see a great opportunity to promote a great cause via social media and challenge our community to show off their beards and make a donation. Below, I provided some information about this event and the website to show to your command staff.

Each day, 22,000 people die from cancer worldwide (WHO). There’s a good chance that someone you know and love will be affected by this disease. Nearly half of cancer diagnoses and deaths are preventable. No-Shave November’s mission is to not only raise funds for cancer research and treatment but to educate the population about preventative measures. For over six years, participants around the globe have put down their razors and foregone their hair appointments to join the fight against cancer. The No-Shave November campaign has successfully raised over 3.5 million dollars to combat this disease. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer in our efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment. Will you join me? Start by using the link Or you can start your own.

I would like to challenge you to match my donation of $50 and grow your beard out with me! I think our community would love to see the comradery as well as something… different. I also know that $50 is a little steep for some, any donation can help and is appreciated. Our goal this year is $2500.00
