School road has been impacting students

School Road has been worked on for some time and the goal deadline was supposed to be in November, but due to weather and other factors it has been delayed to open during winter break. Ready to use for the second semester of the school year. Doctor Bryan Pettengill is the Assistant Superintendent for his second year.

“The road was in poor condition, they are widening it and putting in storm sewages so there is not any water running in the ditches. There will be a turning lane now as well,” said Dr. Bryan Pettengill.

The construction of School Road is not in the hands of the Raymore-Peculiar School District. Instead it is controlled by the city of Raymore, Peculiar, and the County. It has been worked on for some time now, and has been a prime concern for the safety of the students.

“I think it has been a high priority for several years, but when you have sections of a road that are through three different institutes. I think it’s been top priority for the safety of the students, but its been difficult to do,” said Principal Steven Miller.

Even though the construction of the road is for safety some students find that it makes their lives a little harder.

“It makes it very difficult, because it is a lot easier for me to take school road but I do not like driving through the middle school parking lot to have to get to school. So I take Jay highway, which is a little harder,” said sophomore Madison McCamish.

Driving around construction has become such a norm to the students, but once the road is done a lot of moods will be lifted. And everyone will be excited.

“I think the students and teachers will be very excited for a couple of reasons. One, it will be easier to travel here, lots of different ways onto our campus. Two, it is a nice road leading into our school, so there will be some pride in that. Six months down the road, people are going to be used to it and probably not think anything of it. It will be very nice to have other schools come to us and it’s a nice highway all the way here as opposed to patches of road that have holes in it. It will definitely add to our moral and our school spirit,“ said Miller

The pride of the students will go up. For right now, as the other school’s students come and see School Road in not so great position can create a bad image.

“It could be kind of a bad image for our school, because it is easier to get to a school and their roads are up to date then I feel like you think highly of that school. So with our school road destroyed it kinda may be a bad thing for us as an image,” said McCamish.

By the time the students get back from Winter break the road will be done and there will be a new way to get in. Wear your seatbelt Panthers.
