Friday’s football game was the first game of the season. This game is really important to the football players because this was the start of the season for them as well as senior night. The theme was black out to match the colors of the school. There was a lot of excitement for this game from both the players and the students supporting the panthers. Sophomore Dale Clark said,
“For my first game I was nervous but when I got on the field I felt good,” said Clark.
This was Clark’s first game of the season and he was going into it nervous but also prepared for what was coming. He didn’t let his nerves get to him and he did his best for him as well as his teammates. Clark later revealed his thoughts at the end of the game.
“Defense was good and offense was okay but we need to move the ball more and work as a team,” said Clark.
There will be times when you make mistakes but when you are working as a team and communicating your mistakes, it is difficult to repeat those mistakes. So, you get great results from communicating with your teammates and working together. They prepared very well for this game and they went on the field ready to use what they prepared. Junior Donovan Guido speaks on the team’s preparation for football games.
“We practice plays, eat good food for energy, and drink a lot of water,” said Guido.
These were Guido’s preparation steps for his big game of the season. He said these helped him prepare for the game and give him the energy that he needed. Guido spoke on his emotions before and during the game.
“I was very hyped up and confident in my abilities to go out there which made me really excited,” said Guido.
After the game, there were lots of thoughts of what could be better and what could have gone different. Former senior football player, Terin Nickles spoke on the football team’s error’s in the night.
“I feel like we were scared and some of the players might not have known what to do,” said Nickles.
If there was more time to communicate and practice more than it would have gone smoother. This is a great example of sometimes it’s okay to lose. small things matter such as working together as a team. communication, and keeping each other under control. This first game of the season is a great Learning experience, helping players and coaches identify areas for improvement, and build resilience and teach us how to handle setbacks.
