A spread of positivity

More than 90% of teenagers struggle with body image issues, as well as staying positive. While there are many different ways to help a teenager who struggles with both of those issues, the high school has created the REbel club to help keep their students positive.

The RebeL club has been at the school two years now, but is just now making it’s mark by posting positive quotes around the school, ect. The REbeL club is focused on body positivity and spreading that positivity around the school.

“We try to put positive quotes around the school and we’ll put positive things about school on the sidewalks leading up to the doors”, said President of the club, freshman Kaylee Kingman.

The REbeL club started up as an organization ran by UMKC, while the organization became more popular schools in the surrounding area, the schools joined in on the trend by creating a club.

“I plan to get the club up and running and spread the word about REbeL. We hope to reach out not only to the students, but also to the staff”, said counselor Mirrah Willis.

The REbeL club has only 10-15 members and plans on growing as the year continues. They hope to help teenagers at their school keep moral up even if they’re not in the club.

“Teenagers struggle with body image issues and I think that people need to be happy…I think that they should join the club because everyone needs a little positivity in their life”, said sophomore Dawn’yel Iverson.

While the REbeL club grows, they plan on reaching out to more students during their school’s club fair as well as making an appearance during daily events.

“In the next couple of weeks we’re going to do a  whiteboard activity in the cafeteria, where people can go up and write what they like about themselves or what they’re insecure about that they hope to become more confident about”, said Kingman, freshman.

The REbeL club is excited about spreading positivity throughout their schools and town.  For those who are interested in joining the club, they meet every monday during the panther time in the lecture all. Even though their dreams might be big, they plan on fulfilling them.
