Students wonder what College and Career Day is and what it consists of. Career Day may look different for other schools, at Ray-Pec High School, colleges set up tables to hand out information for the potential incoming students. Colleges explain the opportunities for their education programs to interested students.
College and Career day brings out a lot of emotions for students, ranging from positive to negative. Career day is a time for students to explore different careers and opportunities for early jobs. Career possibilities have different options, expanding from local businesses, military, and hands-on jobs. Students gain the information about what the job consists of, considering pay, ranks, etc. At Ray-Pec, the colleges gathered in the Dome and Auxiliary Gyms. Students gather up with friends to find which colleges, military, or hands-on jobs peak their interest. The purpose of career day is to find careers that can lead you in the right direction after high school and college.
Career day helps you gain a deeper understanding on what career to pursue in life. At Ray-Pec, career day typically takes place on a day in mid September during the school hours. Since Seniors are the first in line to graduate and start their life, post-secondary, they are a priority. Career day brings out emotions for students because of the stress of trying to figure out what to begin for a new journey.
“I think I was stressed about it because I had half the time of other people.” Said Jace Randol, sophomore at Ray-Pec High School.
Students at Ray-Pec have different opportunities for colleges and where to go.
“I’m interested in Sociology and Spanish. Some colleges I want to go to are University of Arkansas because it’s far away enough to be a new experience” Said Amelia Eggers, sophomore at Ray-Pec.
College and Career day is a great experience to learn about opportunities for career exploration, picking the right path for your future.
