DECA members visits Raymore Chamber of Commerce Meeting
For every club comes numerous commitments members have to make to support their club. In high school, these responsibilities usually means donating time and ideas. Students in DECA experience this as they contribute their time the last Thursday of every month to attend the Raymore Chamber of Commerce Meeting.
“I believe they [DECA] attend them just so that DECA as a whole is more aware of different activities of local businesses so they know what is going on because it is a business oriented club,” said senior Lindi Monteer.
Along with FCCLA members and other clubs at school, only DECA officers have to attend the meeting. Other students enrolled in the class do not since there are around 30 people enrolled in the class.
However despite the inconvenience, officers feel that going to the meetings has helped the club and themselves personally.
“I think it’s beneficial to keep updated on the community rather than just your school. It gives us a real life experience instead of just a classroom setting so we are able to learn a lot,” said senior Kelsey Cunningham.
With this extra effort and time DECA officers strive to improve both their club and members’ learning in the classroom. In addition to attending Raymore Chamber of Commerce Meetings officer also have morning meetings every Wednesday to keep DECA on track and plan future events. As a result of all this effort DECA continues to grow at school and their impact can be seen expanding throughout the community.
