Boys’ Varsity golf keeps their heads up after defeat
The boys’ varsity golf team had a team-building experience this week. Playing in a tournament at Longview’s local golf course, the boys’ golf team was still proud of their performance. They shot over 360 strokes and placed 13th out of 19 schools. However, their effort did not go to waste. These kind of losses are tough, but in the process of improving themselves, they will surely recover.
“We shot good. I think everybody left streaks out there but I think we did pretty good.” said senior Drew Evans.
Even through tough times, these teammates show pride in each other’s abilities. Evans also believed in himself, this past Monday. He thought he shot well along this burdensome course and played to his best abilities. Evans also made it clear that experience is key in golf.
“When you play school golf you play a lot better because you play so much and you play every day.” said Drew Evans.
Practice makes perfect. The boys’ varsity golf team practices almost everyday, and each day that they are practicing, they practice for hours perfecting their drive, chip shots, or putts.
“Longview is a tough course; it’s a long course so hitting the green is always tough.” said Evans begrudgingly.
After experiencing defeat, the boys’ golf team has learned from their mistakes. Finishing in the bottom half of all the teams that attended the tournament always leaves a sour taste in competitors’ mouths. The golfers are now set on bettering their talents for the future.
Coming soon, the varsity boys’ golf team travels to another tournament, featuring 23 other high school golf teams in the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference.
Aiming for excellence, the golfers look to improve their future success in golfing. As a team, they must do well for one another in order to prosper.
