I got my ‘pinspiration’ for the yummy ideas on pinterest, and decided I should make an entire heart-themed breakfast! I used turkey bacon for the first time, too! The majority of this meal was easy to make, but I also had help making the waffles so it was done at the same time. The toast and heart shaped egg didn’t turn out perfectly the first time, but my second try was as cute as it was delicious. The bacon was perfect, and the waffles were just as expected. (I used a pancake mix!) This was a fairly simple way to make a meaningful meal, and who doesn’t love bacon!! Allow yourself around 30 minutes to make the aspects of the meal because the bacon alone takes 10 minutes to cook, and you should not heat eggs quickly.

Toast with heart shaped egg centers

Ingredients:

Butter (A tablespoon was enough to butter both sides of 2 slices of bread.)

Eggs (One per slice of bread)

Bread (Usually one per person)

Tools:

Heart shaped cookie cutter (big enough to fit an egg)

Knife

Skillet or Griddle

Instructions:

  1. Use your cookie cutter to punch a heart out of the center of your bread.
  • Make sure it goes all the way through, or you’ll have a rough edge.

  1. Place cookies cutter on heated pan, and then crack egg into it. Meanwhile, butter both sides of bread.
  • If the egg doesn’t completely fit in your cutter, it will overflow and get stuff on it when cooking. Use a knife to separate the cooked excess before placing your bread on top.

  1. When egg is mostly cooked, place bread around the cutter, and then pull it away. The egg should hold its shape.
  • If it doesn’t, don’t worry! If your bread isn’t too crispy yet, it should soak up egg or retain the shape of the heart you punched in to it.

  1. Once the egg is cooked into the edges of the bread, flip it over and cook the top, toasting the bread. When egg is fully cooked, remove from the pan, and enjoy!
  • Flipping it is really hard! If it’s not completely sturdy before you flip it, you’ll splatter the egg around and ruin your heart shape.

Bacon hearts

Ingredients:

Bacon (I used turnkey)

Tools:

Baking pan with edges

Toothpicks

  1. On your pan, fold the bacon in half long-ways.
  • This just helps you form it easier. You could use the full width, but making it into a heart would be harder.

  1. Form your strip into a heart shape.
  • Fold the two ends in the make the top V of the heart. Then make the point at the bottom when you toothpick the bacon together.

  1. Use the toothpick to secure the two connected ends of bacon at the top of the heart, and poke it through at the end of the heart to make the point.
  • I went through the two ends like you would when putting on a safety pinned name tag.

  1. Continue with all bacon, and then cook according to directions on your bacon.
  • My turkey bacon cooked for 9 minutes at 375 degrees.

  • When I separated them on to plates, I sprinkled powdered sugar on top. Then everyone added the desired amount of syrup.
