Relationship management

Everyone has relationships in life, they may be fun at times, others they’re not.  But  it can get hard to manage relationships when things like sports, school and plans with friends get in the way.   Senior, crowd pumper upper and SLT leader Paxton Nicholson  has found a way to balance it.

“I do my social stuff at school by getting involved in every activity I can” said Nicholson.

Participating in school activities is one of the many great things to do in your free time and you can make even greater friends.  Another great way to make friends is through sports, Tae’Vion Booze has found the formula to doing both school and sports.

“I play football I have made a ton of great friends through it,” said Booze.

Playing sports, if you can, is a great place to make friends as well. But for some of us that don’t play sports, simply hanging out with some friends is the next best thing.

“I like to go out to eat in occasion with my friends, my favorite spots to go are IHOP and Buffalo Wild Wings,” said Nicholson.

Every relationship is definitely not a rock solid relationship though we all have at least one fight somewhere down the road but it’s what we do to settle the matter that is important.

“I’ve had fights with my friends but we just sit down and talk it out,”  said Booze.

Sitting down and taking a minute to talk things out with your friends is a good way to work fights out.  If the situation escalates from a push to a shove, usually a professional has to step in, an interview we did with a social worker Janet James has had to break up many fights in her years of being a Counselor.

“… I help with peer mediation, so if two people are having an issue I have them sit down with trained mediators to resolve issues,”  said James. We asked Janet how long has she been apart of the school district.

“This is my 21st year.” said Janet.

Janet is the freshman social worker, so she’s only familiar with freshman who deals with bad relationships with other people.

“I enjoy helping them figure out how to be successful, I started with teenagers so it could help me be a good mother.” said Janet.

Janet is an expert on this category because she’s been dealing with this for two decades. Janet gives healthy advice to teenagers dealing with bad relationships.

“It’s important to be trustworthy and a great listener.”

Sometimes in your mind, fighting may be the best option, but there is always someone to listen to you and help you both through your trouble.  This also carries over into home life whether it be a argument with your sibling, or a disagreement with your parents, it’s going to happen one time or another.

“Me and my brother fight frequently, but we get along so well that we usually just shake hands and were back to being best friends within 5 minutes of the fight  happening” said Nicholson.  To prevent fights like these it’s important to communicate with your family after school to close the communication gap.

“Me and my parents talk about our days after school” said Booze. Talking with someone close to you is very helpful because you can let go of some of the sadness, anger, worry etc. It’s just a very therapeutic way to deal with situations if you’re feeling lost. Some advice for people is to try and talk to someone you trust so therefore you won’t have a bunch of emotions building up inside of you because then you completely lash out and that’s not a good thing.  Simply sitting down and talking to your parents about your day can really help some of the frustration from your day and theirs too.  Managing your time may seem like a daunting task now, but if you go into it with the right mindset, and always make sure you have goals set up for yourself and stay focused then you should be able to achieve anything that comes your way!
