“‘The Crucible’ is a compelling drama about the Puritan’s purge of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials. It is both a gripping historical play and a timeless tale of hypocrisy and fear. The story follows the turmoil of the character John Proctor as he is forced to confront a corrupt justice system in defense of his accused wife.  As the story unfolds, goodness and honesty become grounds for hanging, and common vengeance writes the law.  Proctor must face his own sin and take a stand against the consuming fire of fear, for only then can he find his redemption.  Written as an allegory of the McCarthy Era communist witch hunts, ‘The Crucible’ won the Tony Award for best play in 1953 and has since become a classic of American Theatre”.
