Experimenting in the classroom

Imagine the smell of cutting into a dead cat. Touching the insides and examining the organs. The science experiments could possibly be the most fun students could have all year! And whether students like science or not, the students will enjoy the scientific experiments here, the department assures you that. The science department strives to better their students, but they do it in an exciting and entertaining way.

The science department will be doing several experiments this year. Including the traditional ones, but the famous ones will be coming back as well. In fact, a majority of the teachers love teaching the cat dissection. Students love the dissection, they look forward to it all year.

“Most people look forward to the cat dissection because of the smell of it and the look of a dead cat makes students cringe about it,” said Tally.

The cat dissection is loved all over the department. It is a great way to understand how the anatomy works. Plus the students enjoy it. When students are having fun the way they are learning, they enjoy the subject more and they do better all around in the class.

“Dissecting cats is really popular for my class, students love it,” said Hutchens.

Believe it or not the cat dissection is not the only experiment they love, there is many of them. Including the microscope lab. The microscope lab is also interesting. You get to view your own cells and other organisms, cool right? That is just one of the many experiments that will help a student during their high school career.

“Students love looking at their own blood through microscopes, it is really interesting,” said Hutchens.

When it comes to the tools, they are all equal. The tools play their own role and they are all needed just as much as the other. In fact there is not a single tool in the entire lab that is more important than another in the lab. Every single tool or piece of equipment is very key during an experiment.

“We use beakers, balances, graduated cylinders, thermometers. Nothing is more important than the other equipment,” said Tally.

Science experiments are not easy for teachers either. They can be very hard to teach. Sometimes they do not have very much information on what the students are doing in the lab. That is very hard on the teachers, especially if they know just about as much as the student. But the excellent teachers always pull through and persevere.

“I don’t like teaching students labs they can’t read or review,” said Tally..

The science experiments can also get very dangerous! This is why they stress safety. There has been labs that have failed and almost gotten bad. Paying attention and alertness is very key to the students  safety in the lab. Sometimes, accidents happen, but these  teachers are always there to help. And sometimes accidents happen, even when the teachers and students are being safe. Everyone is human. Everyone makes mistakes.  But this just goes to show the dangers of experiments if they are not careful.

“Digesting candy in the test tube; glass was stuck in my neck because the experiment blew up,” said Hutchens.

Yet, experiments are one of the most helpful way to learn. It is a hands on activity that fills the students with tons of knowledge. It is one of the easiest and most exciting ways to understand a topic. Sometimes students do not like it, but it truly helps. Whether they believe it or not, it is a great role in your education.

“Sometimes I think students get annoyed with them, but it is the best way to learn the topic,” said Tally.

Science experiments help students. Do not despise them, or be annoyed by them.

The students will have to do them anyway, so enjoy them. They help a lot with the way a student learns and the way a student understands a topic.
